PHP |

PHP
is a widely-used general-purpose
scripting language that is especially
suited for Web development and
can be embedded into HTML. PHP
is a widely used Open Source
server-side general-purpose
scripting language that is specially
suited for Web development and
can be embedded into HTML. Its
syntax draws upon, Java, and
Perl, and is easy to learn.
PHP runs on many different platforms
and can be used as a standalone
executable or as a module under
a variety of web servers. It
has excellent support for databases,
XML, LDAP, IMAP, Java, various
Internet protocols, and general
data manipulation, and is extensible
via its powerful API. It is
actively developed and supported
by a talented and energetic
international team. Numerous
open source and commercial PHP-based
application packages are available.
PHP is naturally compatible
with all operating systems.
It works fine on personal computers
that were regarded as cutting
edge about four years ago but
that now show their age running
some modern application. Our
own experience in PHP-based
web development is the background
for our firm intention to go
on using this dynamically growing
technology.

MySQL |

MySQL
is an SQL based relational database
management system (DBMS) that
runs under a broad array of
operating systems. MySQL is
frequently used by PHP and Perl
scripts.

ASP |
| |
ASP
was designed as a faster and
easier alternative to CGI scripting
using Perl or C. It provides
an easy-to-learn scripting interface
(including native support for
VBScript and JScript), along
with a number of predefined
objects that simplify many development
tasks, such as maintaining user
state and defining global variables
within an application. ADO components
can be used to perform additional
functions, including accessing
ODBC-compliant databases, and
outputting data to text files.
Java components and XML can
be used to extend ASP scripts.

With
new Windows Forms, developers
using Visual Basic .NET can
build Windows-based applications
that leverage the rich user
interface features available
in the Windows operating system.
All the rapid application development
(RAD) tools that developers
have come to expect from Microsoft
are found in Visual Basic .NET,
including drag-and-drop design
and code behind forms. In addition,
new features such as automatic
control resizing eliminate the
need for complex resize code.
New controls such as the in-place
menu editor deliver visual authoring
of menus directly within the
Windows Forms Designer. Combined
with greater application responsiveness,
as well as simplified localization
and accessibility, these new
features in Windows Forms make
Visual Basic .NET the choice
for today's Visual Basic developers.
Visual Basic .NET delivers the
answer to all of your application
setup and maintenance problems.
With Visual Basic .NET, issues
with Component Object Model
(COM) registration and DLL overwrites
are relics of the past. Side-by-side
versioning prevents the overwriting
and corruption of existing components
and applications.

C# |
| |
C#
is a strongly-typed object-oriented
language designed to give the
optimum blend of simplicity,
expressiveness, and performance.
The .NET platform is centered
around a Common Language Runtime
(similar to a JVM) and a set
of libraries which can be exploited
by a wide variety of languages
which are able to work together
by all compiling to an intermediate
language (IL). C# and .NET are
a little symbiotic: some features
of C# are there to work well
with .NET, and some features
of .NET are there to work well
with C# (though .NET aims to
work well with many languages).
The C# language was built with
the hindsight of many languages,
but most notably Java and C++.

AJAX |
| |
Ajax,
shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript
and XML, is a Web development
technique for creating interactive
web applications. The intent
is to make web pages feel more
responsive by exchanging small
amounts of data with the server
behind the scenes, so that the
entire web page does not have
to be reloaded each time the
user makes a change. This is
meant to increase the web page's
interactivity, speed, and usability.
